Title: Question about altitude Post by NNewcomb on Jun 10th, 2011 at 4:59pm
How do you make the plane climb and maintain a certain selected altitude? Also, is it just me or does anyone else think that the engines are under-powered?

I found the engines in the 727-200 and 727-200F were underpowered. I increased the engine power from 15500 to 17400 in the aircraft.cfg for them both. As shown here:
[TurbineEngineData] fuel_flow_gain= 0.003 inlet_area= 18.000 rated_N2_rpm= 29920.000 static_thrust=17400 //15500 afterburner_available= 0 reverser_available= 1 ThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 1 AfterBurnThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 0 Mark |

Okay, cool thanks!

When the thrust was increased did you need to make any changes in regards to fuel consumption? Thank you Michael Cubine |

Hi Michael. No I didn't change anything else. I don't know if it changes the fuel usage, or not. Either way, I don't fly much further than 1600miles in it, which is well within it's range. Mark |

Mark
I tried to change the static thrust on the 752 from 40177 to 42000lbs. I have done it twice with the same results. No 752s' appear in the FSX change selection. When I go back to the cfg file and change it to the 40177 that it was originally the 752 still does not appear in the select aircraft. Thank God I made a backup copy of the cfg before making any changes. Does the 727 use FSUIPC? Do you rember a thread 6-12 months ago about changing thrust in the 752? The change seemed to involve more that just changing the thrust value. Thank you Michael Cubine |

Hi Michael.
What program do you edit the CFG files with? It sounds like they are not being saved in the correct basic text format. As far as I know, CS 727 uses FSUIPC. It is only the 707 and B-52 that don't use it. Mark |

Mark I can't get at FSX or the cfg file right now because I am doing a 12 hour flight in the MD-11 and I run in the full screen mode. I am certain I am using Notepad for cfg changes. I just ran across a post in which thrust_scalar = 1 was changed to a value of .91 to reduce thrust. Maybe I need to change that to 1.05 and see what happens. I am still trying to find the thread on changing thrust in the 752. I am sure that one had 3 to 5 changes in the cfg file to increase the thrust. The guy said it worked fine but he didn't know how to account for the additional fuel consumption. I don't care about that. I would just like to increase the thrust. Maybe it was in a 762 or 763. I'll try the 767 forum next. I think if I make anymore posts I will start a topic in the 757 forum. The 727 forum "Question about altitude" is not really an appropriate place for this topic. Nor does the 777 exterior, and it won't when they add the VC, also supposedly in update 4.5 of the 757 they re-coded the plane so it doesn't use FSUIPC. |

For continuation see 757 Forum "Static Thrust Change".
