Title: TextureMaxLoad Post by boeing247 on Apr 27th, 2011 at 1:16am
I used the Venetubo fsx.cfg optimizer, and it changed my TextureMaxLoad to 12. I've been having troubles with the ground textures loading (they appear blurry. Sometimes they load and sometimes they don't), and this looks like something which might affect them. Will playing around with this variable help the textures load faster? My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT.
Thanks, boeing247 |

I doubt there is any harm in changing it. If you have a backup of your original fsx.cfg, have a look at the setting in there. If you don't see it, try starting at 0 (zero) and gradually moving it up to see if it helps. Stop when you think it is how you want it.

Good idea. By the way, you don't happen to know what it does, do you? Or, do you know of a website that explains cfg files? ;)

Not exactly. So IF I was to try and explain, what I say could be wrong. It's better coming from someone who does know. As for a website that explains them, no I don't know of one. Sorry. :(

Okay, thanks anyway. I'll search around the web, it shouldn't be too hard to find. ;)

In one FSX installation on a laptop with CS 757 liveries I have a value of 512. On the desktop pc with McPhat UDHT liveries it is 1048 which I have to change to 2048 when I fly a High Definition livery on the MD-11. I don't know what the default value is but I think 12 is way to low. Michael Cubine |

You're talking about values for TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD, not TextureMaxLoad. They're two different things which are commonly confused.

I guess you found this one: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/281312-texturemaxload-vs-texture-max-load/. It is a good explanation of the way it is used, but it will be hard for some to fully comprehend, but it makes pretty good sense.

I have no TextureMaxLoad line in the FSX.cfg file. Michael Cubine |

If anybody's curious, I found that some good settings are TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=220 and FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.40. The first loads the textures faster and the second controls how much of one second is devoted to loading textures. If you have a better computer than mine, which is likely, try putting the former at 400 and the second at 0.45. ;) With my settings, I'm getting reasonable framerates (no choppiness) and fast texture loading.

Blizzard Entertainment is on the verge of releasing the third expansion for the behemoth that is World of Warcraft - Cataclysm. Promising a totally redefined experience from 1 to 60, as well as an additional 5 levels, new raids, new zones, a new profession, two new races, new race/class combinations and a redefined skill and glyph system, Blizzard are selling this as the biggest expansion to date. In this blog post I will discuss what I've discovered about some of the new content offered in the prequel event to Cataclysms launch - The Sundering - and whether Blizzard have truly redefined the player experience we all knew, some loved and some abhorred.
