Title: Back Then...

How would the 707 have realistically navigated back when it first came out? All I do is put autopilot on NAV and it doesn't seem very um... authentic. (I ask a lot of questions about navigation, don't I?)

No problem, they've invented this little website for all kinds of questions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navigation
From an authentic 707 doc, Boeing tells about the ADF and VOR, LORAN and INS system to be used on the 707.

Lou talks about that HERE. It's very interesting reading.

Thanks for the link to Lou's post... that was interesting. It sounds like Doppler navigation was the main form back then. Also, I looked at some pictures of 707-100 cockpits, and there is no INS system (at least not the kind that CS has used, so what's with that addition to the cockpit?!  :-?). I guess I'll read up on Doppler then, hopefully I can get it to work this time. Thanks for the prompt replies!  :)

Wow! There's actually a detailed explanation on how to work the Doppler navigation system! Imagine that, a manual that actually helps! Kudos to Captain Sim.  ;D
