Title: Engine Failure Causes--Way to Override
Post by wcs3 on Oct 24th, 2010 at 11:47pm
Hi,

I love the 707, and have enjoyed it greatly for three flights.  Of the three, the last two have featured engine failures on #1 and #4, that, for the life of me, I can't figure out what prompted them--as all indications were "in the green".

Is there a way to turn off "random" engine failures?

If I'm doing something to trigger these engine outs (plenty of fuel, no fires), where can I study up on the "triggers"?

Thanks

Bill

Do you have the Manifold Valve Switches open?

‘707 Captain’ FLIGHT MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems, W01, page 84:

42-45. manifold valve switches
Controls manifold valve.
-When turned horizontally, valve closes.
-When turned vertically, valve opens.

If they are closed when a tank(s) run out of fuel, the fuel will not pass on to other  engines.

AND make sure you turn the Fuel Boost Pump Switches OFF when a tank they are linked to runs out of fuel.

Hope this helps.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply...I'll try to replicate the issue, then try again w/manifold switched properly set...I'll bet you are right.

Sorry....though I had it set, but I do recall that those switches were indeed "horizontal"....

As usual, pilot error rather than equipment malfunction :)
