Also, there MUST be a switch to turn on the panel background illumination (the letters, numbers, symbols etc, not the instruments themselves). This also works with "Shift+L" or the light override switch.

It is not realistic to fly with all lights on in the cockpit at night.

That's really strange. When I press the SHIFT+L, I get some extra light in the cockpit (not too bright) and the lights in the cabin. I certainly don't get all the lights in the cockpit. And the only time it seems to get too bright in the cockpit (to me) is if I turn on the White Dome light or Red Dome light.
