Title: The Trim issue..again
Post by Morten on Sep 16th, 2010 at 10:45am
Any news regarding to a proper trim for Takeoff?
I'm getting randomly stabilizer alerts forcing me to abort takeoff!!

I leave mine set at 0 (zero) according to the mouse over Cockpit Tooltip on the trim control knob. Sometimes I might actually lower it to about -0.3 but rarely any lower. I never go above 0 or my 767 climbs very steeply, even with it at near MTOW.

Thanks Mark, for being here with all your tips ;)

But how about the CDU Takeoff C/G settings then, what will you (generally) write here?
If you write something in here, will you then just ignore the calculated trim suggestion here, or what?

If you use FsPassenger. You can use their  C/G settings.  I utilize TOPCAT . It works well.

Anywhere from 22 to 39 have been suggested.  The CG is messed up.  Try 25 and see if that works for you and go from there.

Yes indeed, I know about Topcat and it will probably be my final choice after all (in spite of that silly name!). Because The calculation to reach a proper trim is in fact rather complex.

But for now, I'm just trying this CS model out, so I just need some raw, but somewhat, vice suggestions based on experience!

Last time I flew BA B767 RR. A 2 hour flight, from Zürich to Rome with 110 passengers and a GRW of 255.4. I chose C/G 24% and grabbed the calculated CDU Trim suggestion of 2.85, which all resulted in Takeoff-abortion because of loud and insistent Stabilizer alarm!
The 24% was just something that I picked up from another thread - but obviously this most be a wrong value or at least based on some entirely different weight conditions!

Like Mark wrote just use the trim between 0.0 and -0.3 per Tool Tips from moving the mouse over the trim levers. Nothing else is going to work. 0.0 maxed out GW and -0.3 for light GW. Period. It is what it is. End of thread.

Thanks for adding that bit of missing information Michael.

0.0 is my main setting because I do a lot of flights with the plane close to MTOW. Basically, I put in a full load of passenger, fill the fuel tanks and cargo takes up the rest of the weight until MTOW, then off I go to some distant destination. I do this more often with the 762 because it has a longer range! ;)
