Title: Re: Lou - the Auto pilot is right on! Post by LOU on Mar 29th, 2010 at 2:55pm
Bruce,
Re-program the spoilers to another switch. It's more important to deploy the spoilers on touchdown. BTW, remember the thing I talked about in the Hoot story - the spoiler mixer ratio changer? Well there was a little trap in the deployment of spoilers in that the handle must be moved to the full position rapidly to avoid squirrelly movement of the ailerons. There was a checklist item - Landing with available gear - where you would use partial (50%) spoiler handle deployment when one of the main gear would not extend. It was designed to help keep the no gear side off the ground as long as possible. So if you move the spoiler handle slowly during landing, and you have any aileron input at the time, it gets interesting. We used to demo this to new captains during checkout. When we first had the 727's the engine reverse had blocker doors that would extend and block engine exhaust and deflect it forward. Just deploying the doors in idle thrust was effective in slowing the aircraft. The maintenance on the blocker doors was high and many times after deployment, they were hard to stow. so the doors were removed and the cascade system was used, which is what it depicted in this model. To night, shoot some Manhattan Approaches - some bitters, couple oz. of bourbon, couple oz. sweet vermouth + cherry Then try a few hand flown landings :P I'm sure they will be great! |
