Title: Air America Repaint Post by Jason B on Mar 22nd, 2010 at 10:45am
Hi Everyone!
I'm brand new to your forum and wanted to say I'm very entertained by all the topics at hand. I've seen so many great repaints of the C-130 Xperience for FSX. Great job to the repaint artists! Out of all the repaints I've seen especially the Vietnam Era skins, I have yet to see a repaint of the unmarked bailed gray C-130's flown by Air America out of Udorn, Thailand, Vientiene, Laos, and the PDJ (Plaine de Jars) in central Laos known as "The Alternate" or Two Zero Alpha 20A. It would be great to see a repaint artist bring this skin back to life. I don't have any pictures of what the real Air America C-130's looked like. Only an idea from research stating their description. The aircraft was unmarked and bailed gray in color. An idea for a fictional repaint could be done by painting over the USAF markings but still being able to see the faded USAF markings through the gray paint. Maybe a subdued painted N number on the rear quarters of both port and starboard sides of the fuselage. Then perhaps "Air America" in subdued matching colors of the fuselage on the main landing gear doors. Just an idea. I have other photos of Air America aircraft if any of them are needed for ideas. Side note** I noticed the Evergreen Repaint. Top notch! Evergreen is the company that bought out (or rather took over) Air America in 1976. OH another idea! Maybe an old Evergreen skin where you can see the Air America decals underneath........ Anyone want to take on this request? Thanks in advance. Got another idea for ya! Many of the old military heavy lifters were bare metal with black on the radar dome, or a lome green color back then and even the tri color camouflage paint schemes . An example are the old C-123's (baby 130's) with the Air America decals on the rear quarter of the fuselage (port and starboard side respectively).
Here is a picture of an Air America C-123 being restored by the Air American Foundation. http://www.aerodata.org/C-123 http://www.airamfoundation.org/images/Dave-Krochmal.jpg http://www.airamfoundation.org/images/Ed-Allen.jpg (Notice the Air America wing decal on the bare metal tail) A bare metal Air America C-123 ( Note the Air America decal is close to the jump doors) https://www.cia.gov/library/center-for-the-study-of-intelligence/csi-publications/csi-studies/studies/winter99-00/pg81.gif Air America Patch https://khunnamob.globat.com/backup/khunnamob/www.khunnamob.info/board/photo/mXT0HkNN/php4Crmy.jpg Anyways just a few more ideas. :) |
