Title: ILS problems
Post by philbrands on Dec 25th, 2009 at 1:28pm
Hello,

Since the sale I have CaptainSim 767, but I discover the last week that there is not an alignment with my programmed FMC and the ILS path I have to fly. It looks like it doesn't intercept my ILS but fly a mile out of line.

Another problem is that sometimes FMC lost his settings during the approacht path, does anybody have the same problem and is there a workaround for?

BTW Merry Christmas!!!

Peter

My problem is a differance in heading. It looks like the same problkem as I have with the CS757. So who can help me to solve this problem?

regards,
Peter

When do you program your SIDs and STARs? From the picture you posted, it doesn't look like a bug but a FMC programming issue. I would suggest that you do all FMC programming before you takeoff and try to smooth out the curves during the approach and properly tune your ILS frequencies. Follow this 757 tutorial. It is identical to 767.

Bobby,
Thank you for the reaction but is there a procedure also for changing runways during a flight? The screenshot was made after an hour flight and the runway did change during that flight due the wind.

If you are asking this question about tutorial then no. That tutorial does not have it. I found myself in the same dilemma when I started using SIDs/STARs. SIDs was ok because I could find what the departing runway was for a particular airport using ATC clearance and then program my FMC accordingly. The problem was when arriving at the destination my STAR sometime was to the opposite of the arrival traffic due to wind patterns.
So for now I create my flight plan from origin to destination using FSX and then import it in FMC. I then use ATC to guide for departure and arrival. Using autopilot, I am able to capture glideslope for a good landing this way as well but the fun of configuring STARs is missing.
I am not sure if this is possible but I was thinking of using ALT RTE option in FMC to configure an alternate route using the opposite side of the runway of the destination airport. There are only two possiblities for landing and if I cover both ends int two separate route, I can probably switch to the alternate route about 70 miles out if ATC assigns me opposite end of the runway than my originally programmed STAR. Don't know if it is possible but I will try

Bobby, thank god we have the pause button  :)
Durring approach today at EGGW (London-Luton) the wind was changed and I figured it out due to a chart at internet. Change the runway and I had no problem anymore. By the way, I discoverd that I pushed to late the APP button so that was the reason why I missed the approach the last time.

I do not use Flightsim for navigation, I'm planning the real route and look at the forecast of the airport online what the wind will do within the time I start to descent for a landing. I wished MS had changed the possibilty to receive ATIS messages at a longer distance like in the real world. Maybe the next FS edition I hope.
