Title: Electric power dies after few minutes in flight
Post by sanchezsergio on Feb 15th, 2009 at 4:55pm
Hello guys.

I'm trying to fly the 757-200 and after a few minutes in flight, all electric power goes dead. Engines keep running but my MFD and PFD are dark. EICAS stays on but thats it...

It all starts with a Fuel xFeed message on EICAS, All lights in the IRUs are yellow. If I click the crossfeed button, all screens go dark.

Looks like I can continue my flight if I resist the temptation to click the Croosfeed button, but why am I getting this behaviour?

I tried to locate the Uninstall KB for the 757 to try a complete reinstall, but I could not find it...

Help, please   :'(

****  Update...

I continued the flight wothout hitting the button, after leaving my cruise altitude, all warning lights have stinguished and the plane seems to behave normal. So I guess theres something with my plane reaching cruise altitude?

sergio,

Are you sure you've set up your power distribution correctly?  Double check of course that the DISCH indicator to the left of the battery button is not illuminated.

Both Bus Ties to AUTO.
Both Utility Buses ON.
Both engine generators to ON
Both gen drives DO NOT TOUCH. :)

If you've ever pressed a Gen Drive button (under the covers) and then saved a flight, it could be that the gen drive disconnect flag has been saved there, and if that saved flight is your default, it could be your gen drives are actually in disconnected status.

If you're getting this issue and the DISCH indicator is NOT lit, then I can't say I know the problem.

It is a little bizarre.  If you've ever saved a flight tagged as "Default" with the CS757, try deleting that flight and reboot the sim and see if that clears the issue.   8-)

Also you may wish to try to start the APU (or just leave it running after pushback) and then leave it commanded OFF during the flight until this happens, then try commanding it ON when the problem comes up.  If it's fixed then, but you don't show a DISCH light on battery before turning APU back on, then I don't know... but if APU is in RUN status and you command it ON, and the issue doesn't clear, then I have no idea what is happening.

Thanks guys...

I'll try the APU thingy... all the OH panel is dark (no yellow lights) up to when I reach cruise altitude.

I'll report back on the APU findings
