Try what I mentioned above, that's what worked for me.  If you've upgraded I found a gauge is left in the gauges folder for the older install.  Both of those gauges running at the same time can cause problems like your having.  Other than that don't give up and keep investigating.  Performance on my end is stellar with a comparable system to yours.
