Title: Speed Bugs, Brakes and Other 757 Questions
Post by CaptnBob on Oct 23rd, 2008 at 4:55pm
I have just flown my first flight in the 757 for FS9.  There is so much I like about it but I do have a couple of questions:

1) How do I fine tune the speed bugs in Airspeed Indicator?  I've discovered if I drag my mouse round the top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right corners of the instrument, I can move them; however, I only have so much control.  I can't set them for specific airspeeds.

2) When inflight, my FS BRAKES message is always on.  What's up with this?  I saw that 2.1 will include a fix for the Brakes message.  Is this what that fix is for?

3) Do you have to use the ACE utility to set weights and balances or can you use the FS Fuel and Payload menu or, better yet, can I let FS Passengers manage this?

4) To confirm, there is no 2D pedestal view.  You have to manage engine cutoff and trim through the VC.  Correct?

Thanks for any insight into these questions.

Also...

5) I'm struggling to get the navigation radios to work.  Auto-tuning seems to pick up VORs at the last minute.  Manually tuning them doesn't seem to pick up the VORs or ILSs at all.  Any insight as to how to make the nav radios work correctly?

6) Is there anyway to set the barometric pressure?  When I click or use the mouse wheel around the barometric pressure knob on the altimeter, I can only get it to go down.  How do I get it to go up?

Hi

You must wait for the 2.1 patch  ;) that should solve it.

So, I feel a bit like I'm talking to myself but I'll post the answers to questions as I learn them/figure them out for those that are interested.

It turns out that you need to have FS's Avionics Master Switch turned on to make the NAV radios work.  This is quite confusing since the 757 does not have an Avionics Master Switch.  I was encountering this problem because I started the 757 from a cold and dark cockpit setup from the default Cessna 172.   To fix the problem, I assigned a key (CTRL-SHIFT-A, in my case) to the Avionics Master Switch.  After I start FS, I press this key combination and the NAV radios (VORs, ILS, etc.) works just fine.
