Title: Stab trim warning on short final Post by Michael_LOWW on Apr 18th, 2008 at 8:35pm
Hey all!
My problem: The aircraft is out of trim (at 10 or 11 up) with flaps extended on short final and I get a stab trim warning. Besides, I get a strange warning (?) sound (similar to the outer marker sound) at about the same time. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Best regards, Michael |

I can confirm that for my feeling way too much trim is required on the approach to keep the 757 at a good angle. I also can´t imagine that is how it is on the real thing. For now, I fly my approaches with a speed higher than Vref, that helps.

Servus Michael,
are you using a joystick or flying with the keybooard? Sometimes when flying with the keyboard in order to rotate, you push the "2" key or "down arrow" too often to get the plane up in the air. Once it´s airborne and you don´t adjust your trim, you will get that out of trim message on approach. I don´t get it when using the joystick. Gruß aus Graz, Werner |

Hey!
I use a joystick. I haven't got any problems rotating the plane, only when it comes to the final approach with flaps extended, I get the stab trim warning. Vref basically gives me a good angle. What are your trim settings on final approach? Gruß aus Wien, Michael |

hi, perhaps your a bit to slow. ...using VREF (usually 1.3×VS0) is the correct final approach speed at 50 feet AGL and calm wind. So perhaps you should use VREF+(0.5xHW) to have the correct speed. ;) |

Hey!
Thank you for your advice! You are, of course, perfectly right. Although I do use Vref plus at least 5 knots for the final approach, I get the stab trim warning. Any other ideas? Best regards, Michael |

sorry Captain :-X ...hmm perhaps it is normal to get the warning if gusty winds are present, maybe gusty winds are also a factor when the AP flare to late / slow while trying an autoland in bad weather conditions ? This should be tested in calm wind conditions, perhaps it isnt a bug... but iam not a real world Boeing Pilot. |

Hi Michael,
just made a testflight from eddm to lgko. On final, I had a trim setting of 4 (down) Gruß, Werner |

Hey Werner!
Thank you very much for letting me have this info! This is exactly what I needed to know. It may have something to do with my joystick preferences. I am having a look into this. LG in die Stmk. Michael |
