Title: Engine Start-Up procedure
Post by Longhornmaniac8 on Apr 13th, 2008 at 2:42am
I consider myself a pretty experienced FS pilot, and have normally never had any problems manually starting the aircraft. However, this one has me beat, thus far. I followed the checklist, but the problem it has is that it has no troubleshooting (or really detailed) procedures.

Can anyone give me some step by step instructions.

Basically, any time I switch the L Engine Start switch to GND, the VALVE light is illuminated, and the engine won't even start spinning.

Any help is appreciated!

Cameron

Hi,

first, if you are a "3D-Panel Guy" open all 2D panels one`s to initialise the gauges.

my procedure for Block 2.0: (this is not a checklist)

Battery Switch = On
Check Parking Brake = Set
Dust Excluders / Engine Covers / Wheel Chocks = Removed
APU or External Power/Bleed Air Supply = Running or Established
External Power Switch = On (if using external power)
Doors = Closed
Position / Beacon lights = On
Left Engine / Right Engine / APU Bleeds = On
Packs (if weak APU in use) = Off
AFT / FWD / CENTER Fuel Pump switches = On

Engine Nr. 2 Starter Switch = GND
Until N2 reach 21%, Engine Nr. 2 Fuel Cut Off Switch = On

Engine Nr. 1 Starter Switch = GND
Until N2 reach 21%, Engine Nr. 1 Fuel Cut Off Switch = On

Continue with after start checks...

I am in the cold/dark cockpit of the CS Boeing 757-200 as we speak, and getting ready to start the engines.  Here goes... :

1. Battery switch on
2. Right ELEC HYD pump> On
3. APU start
4. CDU/FMC > POS INIT>Last Pos to scratch pad
5. IRS - rotate lower three knobs past "Align" to "Nav"
6. CDU/FMC - move position co-ordinance to boxes with LS6L (IRS will align)
7. Install flightplan, etc. into CDU/FMC
8. Packs>Off
9. APU Bleed>On
10. L ENG & R ENG Bleed> On
11. Isolation Valve> On
12. Check Duct Pressure above 20psi
13. Parking Brake > Check On
14. Beacon  Lights> On
15 Fuel Pumps> On
16 Fuel Cut-Off Valves> Check Off
17. Throttle> Check in idle position
18. ENG IGN switch> 1 or 2
19. R. ENG START SEL> GND
20. Let right N2 build past 20> R. Fuel Cut-Off Valve>On (watch EGT stablize & Oil Pres)
21. L. ENG START SEL> GND
22. Let left N2 build past 20> L. Fuel Cut-Off Valve> On (watch EGT stablize & Oil Pres)
***Both Engines are now running***
23. Switch on Packs
24. Shut off APU Bleed
25. Shut off APU (leave APU GEN switch on)

Now I'm ready to prepare the rest of the cockpit for flight.
I'm no export, so I may be missing some things here, but this is working for me.

Thanks guys!

That did it!

Not entirely sure what I was doing differently, but clearly there was something.

Cheers,
Cameron

Glad you got it working Cameron.
I added the "Isolation Valve> On" because mine was on when I started, but if it is off you may have problems too.
