RAT Problems! Try This.
Aug 13th, 2012, 3:37am

Been testing the reported RAT deployment problem and NOW been able to emulate it.

In the Saved Flight C\..\..\user name\..\ *.flt file there is a tag "O07_001_BUT" if it's set to =1 the RAT deploys at about 80 knots, when set to =0 I see NO problems.

I don't know what sets it to =1 in the 1st place, could have something to do with the way you guys start a new flight eg By loading the C172 and dumping the CS772 on top of it or whatever.

Good luck.

Edit: You can modify this file using notepad.

Edit 2: If your still having undercarriage problems you might like to look at these:
C03_003_BUT=0
C03_005_LVR=100
C03_006_SW2=0
C03_008_SW2=1

All of those switch settings (except C03_008_SW2=1) are already set to the settings you are showing. After changing the C03_008_SW2=0 to C03_008_SW2=1 in the saved .flt file, the RAT still deploys. Sad

The C03 tags relate to the UC only.

The O07_001_BUT tag relates to the RAT should be zero!

If the C03_008_SW2=0 then your Alternate Gear switch has been selected DOWN and could be a source of the UC problems.

It's quite easy to cross reference the tags with layouts in the user #2 manual. BUT -- This could be dangerous info if used incorrectly!

My RAT is deployed when the aircraft loads up using the "Set for Takeoff at KSEA" file that came with the sim.
Engines are on and running, and the RAT is deployed.
It's nice to watch from the outside though. Smiley

Please do not get confused. The OP is about flight initialization (switch presets) and not related to the physical operation of the devices. What happens there is purely a function of the model code.

When the cap on the ALTN GEAR is closed "C03_008_CAP=0" the switch should be forced into the normal UP "C03_008_SW2=1" position, a physical operation of that type of switch and protection. BUT on initialization with the cap tag set to 0 as well as the switch "C03_008_SW2=0" will place it into the down mode. It will not be obvious as you cannot see the switch.

I guessing it's this that is causing the UC faults people are seeing and can't overcome. This in NO way should have any effect on the RAT as I believe the UC lowers in the ALTN mode using gravity.

So i opened up the 777-200 Cleared For Takeoff Flight into notepad going through the vars. you listed and everything looks good except the C03_006_SW2=0, that entry i dont have. Huh

Mine was 6 pages (using the page down function) below a whole bunch of other C03_ XXX's listed. To find it, make sure you search for the whole sting of characters except for the 0 or 1 C03_006_SW2=. Even so, after a lot of changing of those numbers, it  has not made the RAT stay up.

I also assume that 1 is ON and 0 is OFF (in most cases).

Are you guys suffering from tunnel vision?

Continually referring to the C03 tags THEY ARE UNDERCARRIAGE!!!

It's the O07_001_BUT=0 tag keeps the RAT in it's condom!

No tunnel vision here. thats exactly how i went through the search in notepad, using the "Find" function. everything is how you described it but I'm missing the C03_006_SW2=0.

I don't think I'm using tunnel vision. But then again, you did say we might also want to check the other ones out, not just the CO07_001_BUT=0 (or 1) settings. So I did. And the only one that was different was the C03_008_SW2=1, which in my case was C03_008_SW2=0. I changed it, but the RAT still deployed (even after making sure that O07_001_BUT=0 was set at 0).

The difference in C03_008_SW2=1 versus C03_008_SW2=0, is possibly because I was/am going through my saved "cold-n-dark" .flt. I also assume it is a button with a guard on it because of this line directly above it: C03_008_CAP=0.

@Eric. Here is where mine is:

C01_006_SW2=0
C01_007_KNO=0
C01_008_SW2=0
C03_006_SW2=0
G01_001_SW2=0
G01_002_KNO=0
G01_003_SW2=0

I wonder why yours is missing? What "saved" flight are you looking through?

I went through the 777-200 Cleared For Takeoff flight that comes with the 777. i also went ahead and changed the default saved flight from the C172 to the 777 and i dont get the RAT deployment light at all now, I also still dont have the C03_006_SW2=0 in the Default flight ive created.

Maybe I should delete that line and see if it helps. Wink

I just went through the 777-200 Cleared for takeoff (KSEA).flt that is located in FSX\Captain_Sim\777\flights and it is in there. Strange.

BTW. One time when I did a search from the top of the file, it said it couldn't find it, so I moved the cursor to the [Captain Sim] section and searched again and found it. That still happens to me sometimes, but not always.

The 777 Flight i searched was in the "My Documents\FlightSimulatorX\777-200 Cleared for takeoff (KSEA), i went to the FSX Captain Sim 777 "Flights" folder and looked for the settings in there and still the only one i am missing is the C03_006_SW2=0.

If you add it and the RAT deploys, then remove it again and the RAT doesn't deploy, then you have your answer. Grin

I only got a chance to try this today after loading the 0.7 update.
My FLT file has the described section and setting: O07_001_BUT=0 on the overhead panel the button has the "unlckd" caption showing in yellow.
However when I load the default 777 flight, the RAT still deploys above 80 knots. The moment I slow down below 70 knots, it immediately retracts. I have tried all other settings, activated the APU and APU Gen etc. but to no avail.
All other systems work just fine.

I guess there is more to it.
What I do notice is that when I switch the rear fuel pumps or the crossfeeds, the caption on the RAT button flashes but I have no idea whether that has any connection to the problem.

Best regards,
Marc

Tried again today and the RAT only deploys when I use the default KSEA saved flight.
I tried another flight, started with the default FSX 737-800, switched to the 777 and now everything worked just fine.
I did switch everything on, including the APU but noticed beforehand that the RAT button no longer showed "UNLCKD" in yellow like it did every other time before.
The RAT stayed in this time and everything went just fine  Smiley

Best Regards,
Marc
