Can't delete from the FMC!
09.03.2010 at 10:53:56

The trouble I am having at this very moment is this: I have just done a plan for the 767-300 Cold-n-Dark (KSEA) and the final waypoint, on J149   AML, is only 0.4nm from KIAD. This is too close, so I entered a new waypoint J149   GINYA and place it ahead of the one for AML. AML remained, and because it is the last one on the route, I get the message invalid delete when I try to delete it. I tried adding KIAD ahead of AML and eventually got rid of AML and then all hell broke loose. I now keep getting a ROUTE DISCONTINUITY message, but I don't want to add any more waypoints to the plan. So far only restarting the flight gets me around this problem.

Also. Another one I have sometimes: Trying to delete a TRANS after selecting the ILS, STAR and TRANS and then EXEC? Sometimes after I have executed this into the FMC to make it active, I change my mind. Upon selecting the new TRANS I want to use, the old one is still present and ACT in the plan. The plan becomes a real mess as the two different TRANS send me all over the place. I wind up with heaps of ROUTE DISCONTINUITY messages. Usually I have to reset the flight and then redo the plan, HOPEFULLY without making the same mistake again, so my route is fixed. It's a nuisance when I am just about to finish a flight, be it long or short.

I have read through the cs767_manual5.pdf about the FMC, but can't find anywhere where it says that I can remove, change or delete these things.

Both of these problems also apply to the Captain Sim 757s as well.

Are you deleting in the LEGS page or ROUTE?

Sorry about that. I forgot to say where.

First one: It is on the ROUTE page (page 3/4 in that particular case).
Second one: I am doing enroute and prior to T/D, so it is on the LEGS pages.

To try and make a reasonable plan I have always made changes on the Legs Pages. When I try to change waypoints, runways, get rid of discont
inuity, etc. on the route pages I get is bucnch of not allowed, invalid delete, invalid entry, cannot delete, not in data base, etc. I don't really care what the route page looks like as long as the legs page is okay and when I step through it on FMC there are no  gaps in the plan.

Thank you

Thanks Mike.

I always try to make a reasonable plan, but every now and then I stuff it up and it's a real PITA if I can't delete something and am then forced to reload the plane and having to redo the route. Unfortunately Captain Sim don't seem to have a way to remove them. Or if there is a way, I have not yet figured it out. Time will tell, or Captain Sim will! Trial and error usually helps me work things out or find things I didn't know of.

Have you tried this manual?

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register!!

It's a free download, way more intelligible than the Captain Sim one, and p93 deals with route discontinuities.

Captain Sim have produced a fantastic plane, but the manuals are written from a backwards perspective: this thing does this, instead of the 'if you want to do this, this is how to do it' flow which we all want.

No I haven't. Thanks for that. I shall download it and read it. 196 pages! WOW!

What happens if the FMC in Captain Sim 767 operate differently?

I agree with Scupper about the CS manuals. All manuals are pretty much that way. They tell you what it is. But how do you this or that? No way
you will find out from the manuals. To fly the CS 757, 767, other 747-400, MD11 I watched YouTube videos. The video on the 767 was a flight
from KPHX to KLAX using a other 767 as the plane. I probably watched that thing 25-30 times and made notes as it went along. There is very
little difference between the CS 767 and the other 767.

There really aren't many differences that I've found (although I only did my first FMC flight a few days ago). I'm trying to come to grips with all this stuff too, - and YouTube has helped quite a bit. Mostly I'm going through the manual linked to in the post above. I print it out at work, ten pages at a time and read a few every day.

CS and the other brand are trying their best to do a faithfull representation of the actual FMC, so the FMC logic and all the line select buttons and menu options are pretty much identical. Compared to the steep learning curve for getting the hang of the actual device, the fact that it's from a different company is not a prblem at all in my opinion, - at least so far.

It's satisfying to progress with it, albeit little by little. I'm impressed how much depth you can get out of FSX by using this kind of thing.

I feel I have got a good understanding of the FMC and programing it. It is just that every now and then I mess something up. So far I haven't been able to remove some "minor" errors that eventually lead me to restarting a flight. At least when I do restart one, I'm still at the Gate.

The ones that really annoy me are the ones in the STAR and TRANS that I can't delete. Especially if I am just coming to the last stage of a very long flight. I don't restart those. I just tough it out.

Thanks for the input guys.

Try to have a backup of your route on RTE 2.

Dare I say? That, on occasion, I have stuffed that up too? It is usually happens because I am trying to find the best STAR and TRANS, for the ILS runway I have chosen to land on, that messes things up.
