I can agree with this statement, and do not find it's lacking an A/T as any form of detriment to the aircraft's realism... but, some models were retrofitted, so perhaps the ability to add or remove the A/T much in the same way we can use ACE to add/remove winglets would be a great compromise.  I would probably use A/T for really long trips, especially once the actual GPS show in the center forward control stand is implemented and assuming that a GPS nav selection switch would be added for it too.  Sometimes I like to walk away from the computer to do real-life things like household chores while flying the long hops. NOTE: I'm on hiatus, concentrating on flight training. Most of what I'm flying right now is a C172N similar to what I'm training in. I'll try to check in and answer questions when I can, but please don't be impatient, I have other priorities right now! Cheesy

I'm not a professional pilot, but I play one on the Internet!

Please do not add an auto-throttle.  The whole point of a classic airliner is that you have to actually fly it.

Hehehe... Then don't use it... Wink

Personally, I am with you Michael, but I also agree with Bob. If there were 727's retrofitted with AT's, I would like to see them included in this awesome model.
I too, at times, need to step away, not only during long hauls, but there are also the bathroom breaks, and you can't just sit there with an empty beer either!  Cheesy  ... There's no co-pilot in my cockpit to monitor my airspeed when I'm gone...

So, yes, "It'd be nice..." ...To see a retrofitted AT system to appear in the next update...

Heh, thats one patched together 727 there!  Grin Handles #1 & #2 are original, and #3 is defenetly from a 737. And it has been retrofitted with an AT, which actually isnt working.  Grin

Visible handles for 1&2 look like reverser handles.

But that's half the magic of the 727, being that it's so old you can change so much about it to suit your likes. A/T, A/P, bigger or smaller engines, winglets, GW increases, etc.

Can anyone explain why the auto throttle wouldn't be modelled in this add-on?  That doesn't make much sense to me.  To be honest I probably wouldn't have purchased it if I would have known that at least the main systems weren't properly working.  Are all of your sims like this and are you planning an update to address this?  I don't know this just seems silly. Shocked

I will give you a very good answer as why it won't be modeled in this add-on - REAL Boeing 727s NEVER HAD AUTOTHROTTLES.  This was a plane designed in 1963 back in the age before fancy on-board computers.  This plane is difficult to fly.  If you get it low and slow on approach will full flaps, it will sink like a rock and you will crash.  You cannot program the autopilot for your altitude and slave it to your GPS and take off and engage it.  It's an old Sperry autopilot that requires you to command the pitch angles and such and will not automatically climb like you're used to on the more modern airliners.

This is a true pilot's airplane and it takes more skill to fly it than it does to fly the modern 737 with high bypass turbofan engines.

Until the cockpit is released, you are using an alias to the default B738 panel, which obviously DOES have an autothrottle SWITCH, since the B738 has that.  But, there is no system to connect it to.  This panel is a stopgap fix until the interior product has been released.  Note the lack of a third *engine* on this panel too, since B738s only have two, while the B721/B722 had three Smiley

So... there won't, and shouldn't, be an autothrottle in a 727.

Never say never. Smiley  Some late build 727-200advs certainly were delivered with auto-throttles installed. An FFRATS at that.  It simply is not true to say autothrottle does not belong in the 727.

I'm a newbe here with my FSX and would like to put my 2 cents in on this topic.
I am a retired 727 pilot with over 24,000 hrs on the 72.
Yes, some 72's had autothrottle. I flew them with autothrottle at National Airlines. Autothrottle is required for a cat 2 approach. Most carriers limited the 72 to cat 1 because, I think, the cost of maintaining the system.
I have had FSX for about a year using the a/c supplied and a couple days ago purchased and downloaded the 727 100 and 200.
I am having problems with the download, but hopefully they will soon be worked out with tech support.
I MUST fly my baby.

We had a 727-200 in our fleet that had a placard stating it was certified for CAT II but it was not equipped with autothrottles.

my final approach speed is usually about 120 kias on final.  of course wind speed and weight all factor in, but about 120 kias works for me Smiley

An easy way to figure your approach speed:
Using flaps 30 for landing, take your gross weight, divide the last 2 numbers by half and add 7.
Example= ldg wt 140,000 lbs
Half of 40 is 20, add 7 and your approach speed will be 127.
Also for takeoff with flaps 15, use gross wt 150,000 example.
Same formula.
Half of 50 is 25 but this time add 3 which will make VR 128.
