I think people have missed the point of this thread - it is very easy to ask for a super product - with docking missions to the ISS and whatnot. However, it is very hard to actually make it work. This thread was created in hopes of garnering some ideas on how to get launch to work, not to simply request all these super features. Wink  Smiley

On the launchpad, I hav an idea on how to make a retracting gangway. Just assign it as a jetway Grin

The packages from CaptainSim have always impressed.  Very well done art work, and amazing attention to details.

My suggestion is to keep up the work on modeling, and flight dynamics of approach, and landing.

However, trying to do full missions is simply not something worth while in the current iteration of the game engine itself.  It simply doesn't support that level of complexity without so much work, and code, you'd end up spending as much, or more time developing the craft as the makers spent making the engine.  But, to stay on topic, the best way to go about getting a superficial means of launch in game is the towing idea.  I have to admit that's about the only thing in game currently that could make that happen.

My suggestion for those that really want to play with a full mission of launch, and such is to get Dr Martin Schweiger's orbiter sim.

In fact, what I am /HOPING/ to accomplish, is those that are in the flight sim community will get behind this particular sim and help get more interest in the modeling so we can get better looking, and behaving ships Smiley

I love FSX for flights when I want pretty scenery, and a reasonably accurate flight model, and flying experience (navigation, etc.).  I run X-Plane when I want that over-the-top realism in flight characteristics, and the ability to see what maneuvers I'd have to do IRL setting an Osprey onto a moving ship.  When I want to experience from beginning to end the vast complexities of getting a ship from ready to T/O to ISS docking, I go for Orbiter.

I hope to inspire CaptainSim (with money, if not with words  Wink ) to make a model or two for Orbiter!

OK.

Well, my thoughts on expanding the Space Shuttle program is this:

Full flight abilities where you can setup a Shuttle at a launch pad, launch it, drop the rockets and tanks, and fly to a satellite or the ISS to dock or perform a mission. Then the ability to start re-entry and approach. Perhaps have the ability to fire the rockets in space to accelerate or maneuver. Or the ability to control the arms in the payload bay.

u are rightttt  Angry

Just my two cents.
