RNAV Approaches

Hi all.   I picked up this fine aircraft during the sale.   I've had some nice flights with it so far, seen a quirk or two, but very much enjoying it.

I am having trouble getting it to do an RNAV approach.   I go through the process of selecting one of the RNAV approaches in the FMC (I have latest Navigraph installed), select a transition, and execute.   But when I go back to LEGS, there are no waypoints added for the approach.   This seems to be the case at any airport I have tried it with.

Then last night I tried manually entering the waypoints for RNAV 17R at KCOS, including the speed and ALT restrictions.   The plane flew it OK for a couple of waypoints, but then as it went to make a turn, it stopped honoring the ALT restrictions and we were going to become a lawn dart before I took control and flew the rest of the approach visually.

Is there something I might be missing here, or is this a known issue?

The problem with adding the STAR/TRANS/APPROACH is a known bug, that requires a trick that I explain in a Topic I created how to get it to hold, and give you a TD. Here is the link:

Fix for missing T/D in CDU/FMS

It should work for RNAV approaches!

Edit... As for the 767 not honouring the ALT Constraints. I don't recall having that happen to me.

Thanks Mark, but the problem is not a lack of T/D---it is that no waypoints whatsoever are added for whatever RNAV approach I select.  No transition, no IAF, no IF, nothing.

I don't recall ever attempting an RNAV arrival for the 767. I just use ILS approaches. Sad

They are actually quite fun!   Most of my glass-cockpit planes will do them.   The ones that the built-in ATC knows about are from c. 2006, like all of FSX.

I can usually find the proper charts on Flightaware.  You want to try the ones that are listed as RNAV(GPS), not RNAV(RNP).

You fly them using LNAV/VNAV togther, and it is pretty slick when it works right.   I had to use the RNAV 22L for Chicago Midway KMDW the other night.  ATC cleared me for 22L visual, and there was no way that was going to work in the WX that was happening there.    There is no ILS for that runway, but the RNAV approach worked and got me down to minimums where I just was able to see the threshold and manually land.

The CS 777 does RNAV approaches properly, but I wouldn't recommend trying it in the 767! Wink
