From the ‘727 Captain’ FLIGHT MANUAL Part II – Aircraft and Systems (cs727_manual2.pdf) page 109:

Autopilot will track CIVA-INS flightplan:
- Autopilot Mode Selector should be in MAN position
- Autopilot HDG Switch should be engaged
- Autopilot Navigation Source Selector - pos AB
- Heading Bug on Captain's HSI will be controlled by CIVA-INS

Note. The manuals can be downloaded from HERE.

Thank you for your contribution Markoz, but I think that mllgrennman refers to Simufly CIVA INS, isn't?

In that case:
- Autopilot Mode Selector should be in MAN position
- Autopilot HDG Switch should be engaged
- Autopilot Navigation Source Selector - pos A
- Heading Bug on Captain's HSI will be controlled by CIVA-INS

In both cases (Simufly CIVA INS and CS CIVA INS), you have to align them to 0 in chocks without any movement.

Im using the CIVA INS...And it WILL track if I select AB...but the plane goes away from the first waypoint...and the distance readout increases...

For me, the 727 follows the CIVA INS route like it should do. Undecided

It works with all the different versions of the 727 that I have, which is all of them (727-100/200/100F/200F).

The Captain Sim CIVA INS is the one that comes with the latest version of the CS 727.

The Simufly Delco CIVA INS is a third party addon, that a lot of people used prior to the CS CIVA INS being included with the 727. Some people still prefer to use it, but I prefer the included CS CIVA INS.

It's because it is similar to the Delco Carousel IV-A INS that was used for navigation in aircraft a long time ago. It works a bit differently to the SimuFly Delco Carousel IV-A INS (Version 1.51 Build 2296, October 2007). You can choose to use the SimuFly CIVA INS, or the CS CIVA INS. I prefer to use the latter. Wink

Note. For Captain Sim to include the SimuFly Delco CIVA INS in the VC, they needed permission from SimuFly, and I don't think they ever replied, so Captain Sim decided to do their own.

I used to use both Simufly and CS CIVA INS simultaneously.

In long haul flights over the ocean I switch to CS because its no missalign (it isn't real but it is more practical), and follows the heading like a conventional GPS.

And over the land I switch to Simufly INS, previously I have alligned it with the closest VOR after the ocean.

And this way there are 2 navigation systems.

Also I use CS INS to see the distances between waypoints easier than Simufly INS (again is less real but practical)

Simufly CIVA INS is more realistic and more functional (you can load routes via files like real life) than CS INS, but CS INS it is a good addition on both visual and practical level.
