Hi foks,

Is there anywhere that I can get a better engine smoke effect for this classic? I like the dirty black stuff that the real ones let out? Ideas and suggestions please?

Hi Lee.

In the aircraft.cfg, change the following:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00,  cs727_smoke
smoke.1=-36.00,  0.00, 1.00,  cs727_smoke
smoke.2=-33.00,  8.50, 1.00,  cs727_smoke

to this:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke
smoke.1=-36.00,  0.00, 1.00,  cs707_smoke
smoke.2=-33.00,  8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke

and it will look like this:

Sometimes I need to press the I key (default keyboard command for smoke) to get the engine smoke to show. It's strange that I don't need to press the I key for the CS707 though. Undecided

Yes. But I believe that Lee Park has the CS707. I don't recommend buying the 707 just to get better smoke though. Wink

Is the smoke supposed to appear after some certain power setting or only manually by the I key ?

I think it's supposed to show once you have provided a decent amount of thrust to the engines.
For me, it's a case of sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn't show. Undecided

All three lines in the [Smoke section] seem to be the same:

smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00,  cs727_smoke
smoke.1=-36.00,  0.00, 1.00,  cs727_smoke
smoke.2=-33.00,  8.50, 1.00,  cs727_smoke

to this:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke
smoke.1=-36.00,  0.00, 1.00,  cs707_smoke
smoke.2=-33.00,  8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke

Hi Bernardo.

The same effect (cs727_smoke) is used for each engine, but the coordinates for each is different:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-33.00, -8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke - Engine 1 (z = 33.00, x = -8.50, y = 1.00)
smoke.1=-36.00,  0.00, 1.00,  cs707_smoke - Engine 2 (z = 36.00, x = 0.00, y = 1.00)
smoke.2=-33.00,  8.50, 1.00,  cs707_smoke - Engine 3 (z = 33.00, x = 8.50, y = 1.00)

Engine 1 is left of centre (-8.50)
Engine 2 is further back AND centred (36.00, 0.00)
Engine 3 is right of centre (8.50)
And all 3 engines are the same distance above the centre of the fuselage (1.00)

I was thinking the same thing for a sec and forgive me if I mistook this but the difference is cs727_smoke vs. cs707_smoke

using 707 smoke but with the 727 engine placement

good question btw, glad i saw this Smiley

Maybe Bernardo didn't realize that the second lot are using the cs707_smoke effect, and not the cs727_smoke effect either. Shocked

Thanks for pointing that out to me, coz I sure didn't see it. We are old guys (Bernardo and I are about the same age). Embarrassed

I did that for Lee Park because I know he has the 707 Captain. Wink

Mark i am msorry that it's taken me since October last year to reply. I bought that Windows 8 computer and it's proven a total failure; I am back to my win7 32 Again and it is in the least reliable,for most my needs.

regarding the subject, No I hadn't realize about the Smoke Effects, after a Little fiddling with my settings I can see better smoke now.

I sometimes have to press the "I" key to see the smoke from the 727, but most times it already visible.

Sorry that the "Windows 8 computer" was such a failure for you. While I don't like Windows 8/8.1 very much at all myself, it's the interface (GUI) I can't stand, I do find that it's quite good for gaming, it's certainly no worse than Windows 7. I can't remember when I last went into Windows 8.1, but it's probably been a few weeks now. Undecided

A few years back Jan Rosenberg created a smoke effect gauge that will emit exhaust smoke when exceeding a selected throttle percent. It was created for FS2002 and works fine in FSX. The installation is pretty easy and it gives you three choices of smoke thickness.
It's called SHOP_FX. Dynamic Jet Smoke Effects Workshop for FS2002. Filename: shop_fx.zip
This can fix the auto-smoke problem with the 727.
