I'VE TOLD YOU BEFORE
Dec 14th, 2013 at 5:11am
Print Post

First Officer York E. "Maddog" Douglas

This is how I fly, with a tiny yorkie on my arm (or marching around on the keyboard) and a bigger one trying to pull my hand off the joystick to pet him. The picture is dedicated to all those with significant others who have that "sixth sense" to know when you're on final. Even if they have to use their phone.

My wife is a more accurate indicator that I've captured the glideslope than any instrument. I just yell "sterile flightdeck!" and she rolls her eyes and walks away shaking her head.

I hope you got a chuckle.

It is maddening how everyone wants you, just as you start final approach! My wife is always calling for me just at that point. She would be a millionaire if I had to pay her a dollar for every time I yelled back "Hang on a couple of minutes. I'm landing the plane right now!" Cheesy Grin

As for dogs pulling my arm away from the joystick, or walking on the keyboard - NEVER GONNA HAPPEN! Smiley

You obviously don't have Yorkies, Mark. BTW, nice pic of you on the home page announcing the big sale!

Golly, how silly it must sound for grown men to be sitting at a computer yelling "Not now! I'm landing an airplane!" Hey, at least it keeps us off the streets and out of the bars. (Who could afford to go drinking after buying some scenery, and an airplane or two?)

My wife is happy with my flight sim hobby (and playing other computer games) because she knows I'm not wasting money on alcohol and cigarettes (I always smoke when I'm drinking alcohol, which is not very often Wink), and she knows where I am all the time.

The dog looks like it's about to take your arm off if you dare say "I have control."  Smiley

You don't know how right you are, Cappy. More than once she's bitten me when I reached for the throttle. She weights 3 lbs, and usually doesn't draw blood, though. She's so darn cute she gets away with murder. She's a rescue, and had a rough life, so we cut her slack for that, too. But if I am flying, she is always "helping" or tucked into the crook of my right arm, sleeping.

Her main ambition in life is to become the official Captain Sim mascot, with a set of tiny period flight attendant uniforms to go with her extensive wardrobe.  Grin

Haha. I'll leave you to it.

I have a staffy that's also a rescue dog and an australian cattle dog (commonly known as a red heeler) it's the heeler you need to watch out for, he's a sniper! Cool

She can't fly so rides a bike instead. Cheesy

The RSPCA named her tahla so I kept that. Unfortunately she was abused as a pup and is very timid although she goes in to bat for Tom (heeler) he once got into a fight and she nearly killed the other poor dog!
She's 18 now, I've had her since she was 3.

A grand old lady!

Tom at about 12 weeks.

Can't leave this one out.
Alright, alright no more soppy photos.  Smiley

Merry Christmas!

I had a friend who had a red heeler, and in all the years I knew him, his dog hated me. Whenever I visited, the dog had to be put on a leash out the back, or I was definitely going to get bitten. His mother bred Siamese cats and they also had an Old English sheep dog, and they all hated me too. Worst thing was that the cats and the sheep dog got me quite a few times. Fortunately the blue heeler never got the chance. The funny thing is that the sheep dog and the cats were fine with all his other friends, but not me. I think the animals knew what I was like back then.

Very nice dogs, Cappy! What's a staffy, and what's the little fat light-colored dog?

We have a blue heeler huskie mix who's old now. He once got into our chickens and killed all of them, and laid them out side by side, like, "There. They're still now." He also killed a llama of ours. The straw that broke the camel's back was when he tore the shirt off a guest.

Now he lives in a pen, where he watches our herd of goats from a safe distance!

I have another yorkie, Buster who is not very sociable, either. He always seems to be in the news. This one is based on his habit of stealing small items and holding them hostage for cheese. We agreed to a daily cheese tribute until he stole my wife's yarn. He's a terrierist:

Staffordshire terrier.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staffordshire_Bull_Terrier
Just another bull terrier. I never thought I would own a dog like that but she was 2 minutes away from getting the needle, I simply could not let that happen.
I'm so glad I did grab her, she's been nothing but a darling all her life, yet some people will cross the street to get away from her. Roll Eyes

The little fat one is the Red Heeler. That's Tom's first day at home, 6 weeks old.
The reason he was so fat was we'd just given him his first feed and he blew up like a balloon!Smiley
5 minutes later he climbed off the bed, staggered over to the grass and promptly threw it all up. Cheesy
A common misconception with the Australian cattle dog is that red and blue are two separate breeds, they're not. They are all born white and slowly start showing their colours after a few weeks. Tom had a red sister and the other three from the litter were blue.

Haha, and you think Buster is silly. Buster Osama Capps. Cool
