I can't see any difference in performance with Far Cry 3 in Windows 8 compared to Windows 7. But my new gaming mouse (bought in August), is not Windows 8 compatible. If I had bought the same gaming mouse (G300) AFTER Windows 8 was released, it would be. Go figure? That's when Logitech really ticks me off! Why can't the earlier ones be compatible, Windows 8 RC was out months before I bought my gaming mouse.

The G300 mouse works fine in Windows 8, but I can't program the 6 extra buttons that it has, which is important for me when you consider my "disability". I install the software for Windows 8, but it says it finds no compatible hardware! What a pain in the ****!!! These things are keeping me away from Windows 8 to a big degree.

What?  Angry

Can you write them? I've found their support to be really good, maybe they can clear up that mess. Would be a shame if a new device stops working in full.

Yeah. I did a search for UIAutomationCore.dll and came up with four (4) instances of it in my Windows folder (Windows\System32, Windows\SysWOW64 and two of them in Windows\WinSxS). Weird! Shocked
But I downloaded and added the Vista 64bit UIAutamationCore.dll to the FSX root folder.

Not weird - they are slightly different versions.

Putting UIAutomationCore.DLL does not completely fix the problem. After much testing here I get a crash due to this anyway, regardless of file location and version.

The bug is NOT in UIAutomationCore but in FSX!

If the file:

1) exists
2) is accessible (can be read)

then eventually FSX will crash REGARDLESS.

Just keep hitting the right button on your mouse, or going into the menus repeatedly (about 30 times for me) - FSX will crash in less than 5 minutes doing this.

UIAutomationCore is invoked EVERY time a menu is displayed, as it hooks the menu, and makes the elements accessible to screen readers.

The bug in FSX occurs after it successfully loaded the file. It seems FSX is not freeing memory, and it eventually crashes the sim (an example of the many memory leaks present in FSX).

Using ACLs (Access Control Lists) I completely blocked ANYTHING from reading this file so the OS or another program can't load it before I start FSX. Doing this completely avoids this crash.

If you want a step-by-step I'll provide one, but note that it will break some programs completely, and others in limited ways, due to the ways they invoke UIAutomationCore.

If you don't understand what I'm on about, this fix is not for you.

Best regards,
Robin.

I'm also on Windows 8 and I too had those random CTD from FSX. The .dll file was able to fix the problem. Everything works perfectly now.

Sadly. I have given up on FSX in Windows 8. It started crashing often again, so I just gave up. This was after the UIAutomationCore.dll fix, which seemed to fix it for a while. Sad

I haven't gone into Win8 for more than a week now. Undecided

Aw man that blows, it's been running fine now ever since I used your method with the .dll file so thanks! Will let you know if it starts acting up again
