Help with Textures
Apr 14th, 2011 at 11:19am
Print Post
Hello, I download a repaint of the Portuguese Air Force for C-130 but for FS2004 version.

So tried to load it in FSX, the outside shows maybe 60% of it shows a little dark as if there was no light.

The instruments panel is missing a lot.

My question is if there any to convert the livery to work in FSX?

Textures for FS9 usually work okay in FSX.

Is the livery supposed to be added using the ACE > FLEET > ADD NEW (it has a Livery.cfg file included)? Or do you just copy the livery texture folder into the C-130 folder and add the information to the aircraft.cfg file manually (usually just has a readme.txt file in it)?

Hi Mark

The readme file say to add it to the "variants" folder, but If I try to install it via ACE it complains that there is no Livery.cfg.

So I add manually using the default method of FSX, copying it to the C-130 folder and updating the aircraft.cfg

The only thing text file that has in the folder is "description.txt" that has this:
Code
Select All
 [texture]

model=5b

texture=11

atc_id=Herky

atc_airline=FAP

atc_flight_number=004

ui_variation=Portuguese Air Force

description='Legendary C-130' v.1.0\n(c) 2005 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com

Please help, I would really love to have this livery working

Okay. That tells me that it needs to be added using ACE. This is a partial copy of the instructions found in the ‘C-130 X-PERIENCE’ FLIGHT MANUAL Part I – User’s Manual (cs131_manual1.pdf), pages 10 &11:

2. CREATE A LIVERY OF YOUR CHOICE.
IMPORTANT:
The new livery set should be ACE (Aircraft Configuration Editor) compatible. Make sure the new livery set meets the following requirements:
- Texture files are not renamed; - Texture files are in DXT format; - Package includes 256x128 pixels airlinenameYYYY.JPG image (screenshot) of the new livery. - Package includes livery.cfg (do not rename it!) file in the following format:
-----------------
[livery]
model =
0 (model ID, see below)
0 = C-130E 'Hercules'
1 = C.Mk1 'Hercules'
2 = HC-130 'Hercules'
3 = C-130J 'Hercules'
4 = C-130J 'Hercules'
5 = C-130T 'Hercules'
6 = CL-130 'Hercules'
7 = KC-130 'Hercules'
8 = C-130A 'Hercules'
9 = C-130H 'Hercules' French
10 = C-130H 'Hercules'
11 = C-130H-30 'Hercules'
12 = L-100-30 'Hercules'
13 = LC-130 'Hercules'
14 = NC-130 'Hercules'
15 = AC-130 'Spectre'
16 = C.Mk3 'Hercules'
17 = C-130J-30 'Hercules'

texture= short (5-7 characters) but unique code of your repaint.
For example: for Greece Air Force livery circa 1980 you’d use ‘gaf_80 code’. The code will be used in the texture folder name in the MSFS: texture.gaf_80

atc_id = XXXXXX any numbers & characters

atc_airline = XXXXXX any numbers & characters

atc_flight_number = XXXXXX any numbers & characters

ui_variation = Unique variation name. Should include full name and year when the livery was current AND repaint artists' initials. For example: Greece Air Force, 1980 FH

atc_id = XXXXXX any numbers & characters

description = Description of the livery. Any info you'd like to provide on the repaint. Artist name and e-mail address – recommended for feedback.
\n(c) 2007 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com line must be included in the description.

EXAMPLE OF THE LIVERY.CFG FILE:
------------------
[livery]
model=0
texture=ba_00
atc_id=C001
atc_airline=USAF
atc_flight_number=0001
ui_variation= Blue Angels, 2000 AP
description="C-130E Hercules (c) 2007 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com"

I suggest you read it to see if it helps. If you get stuck, email me with the name of the livery and where you got it (URL) and I will set it up to work for the FSX model. I'll email it back to you completed. It's the best I can do and it is easier than going through the complexity of exactly HOW to do it. Wink

I have sorted it out to work in FSX. The zip file is 3.1mb in size.

(1) All the texture files that were needed were converted to DDS. The rest were discarded.
(2) The JPG image was renamed thumbnail.
(3) The Flag was converted to JPG and DDS and needs to be placed in the [FSX root folder]\Captain_Sim\130\flags folder.
(4) I added a Livery.cfg so you can add it using ACE. Just extract the contents to [FSX root folder]\Captain_Sim\130\variants folder.
(5) I removed the "description.txt" as I don't think that the ACE needs it.
(6) I adjust the description= text to show the following:

"Portugese Air Force HC-130\nRepainting by Daniel de Oliveira FPC\n\nAdapted to suit the Captain Sim 'C-130 X-perience' Pro Pack v.1.3 by Mark Fletcher\n\nAll the credit for this repaint remains with Daniel de Oliveira FPC\n\n'C-130 X-perience' Pro Pack v.1.3\n(c) 2008 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com"

Contact me via email and I'll send it to you.

I tried it, but I have grey (looks like a grey undercoat) areas where it should be some other colour. I have no idea if this area was missed when Dave was doing the repainting, or if there is a BMP file that is completely missing. This only happens when I include the texture.spectre as fallback.1. If I just copy the texture.cfg from the texture.spectre folder and paste it into the texture.warlord folder, then those areas are black (which looks a better than the grey).

I could ask Daveto fix it, but he is doing profession liveries for some other developers and so it could take some time to get it fixed (and that's only IF he is willing to fix it up for use in FSX). Wink

In the man time, to get it to work in FSX, follow these instructions -

1. Create a texture.warlord folder in the FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_EX2_AC130 folder.
2. Drag and drop the contents of the ZIP file into the newly created texture.warlord folder.
3. Copy the texture.cfg from the CS_EX2_AC130\texture.spectre folder and paste it into the CS_EX2_AC130\texture.warlord folder and allow it to overwrite the one already in there - do not drag and drop it as you will move it, not copy it!
4. Rename the CS.jpg to thumbnail.jpg.
5. Add this to the aircraft.cfg in the CS_EX2_AC130 folder:

[fltsim.1]
title=CS AC130Extra2 1
sim=C130
model=15
panel=
sound=
texture=warlord
kb_checklists=
kb_reference=
atc_id=90609
atc_airline=Air Force
atc_flight_number=90609
ui_manufacturer=Lockheed
ui_type="AC-130 'Spectre'"
ui_variation="AC-130 'Warlord'"
ui_typerole="Multi-Engine TurboProp"
ui_createdby="Captain Sim"
description="'C-130 X-perience' Pro Pack v.1.3\n(c) 2008 Captain Sim www.captainsim.com\n\nrepaint by David Sweetman. Email: davesweetman@onetel.com"
flg="USAF"

And it should work.

NOTE: So when you click on the email icon at the bottom of my replies, it doesn't open a new email message in your email program? Hmmm. I thought it would. Undecided

OKAY. I figured out how to get David Sweetman's "Warlord" repaint, for the Legendary C-130 (FS9), working in FSX. I had some areas of the AC-130 with pure black colour, which was a complete lack of textures in those areas.

To fix that, I just renamed three (3) BMP files!

1. Rename the C130_13_T.bmp to C130_17_T.bmp
2. Rename the C130_14_T.bmp to C130_18_T.bmp
3. Rename the C130_15_.bmp  to C130_20_T.bmp

And yes, the C130_15_.bmp IS missing the T and so you do need to rename it 20_T to correct it and make it work.

It looks fantastic in FSX.

@ Dave Sweetman. Thanks for a great repaint!

I'll share it via Dropbox so anyone who wants a copy of it can download it:

CS_C130X_PAF.zip

Enjoy.

Edit. Use the ACE program to put it in FSX. There is a readme.txt file (it is in the texture.paf folder in the zip file) with further instructions that should be followed as well.
