CS texture on acceleration Hornet

If you're wondering how to transfer a livery from the F/A-18D from to the acceleration hornet, this is how I did it with the Canadian tiger livery.

First of all, just copy the relevant texture map from the CS_FA-18D folder to the FA-18 folder.
next, open the aircraft.cfg file in the FA-18 folder (this is the acceleration hornet)
Scroll down to the last [fltsim.XX] entry, and just copy that so you have it twice.
Now change the 'XX' number in the last one to the next free number, in this way of working, just increase it by 1.
Next change the 'title= ', 'texture= ' and any other entry you want to edit.
(I'll add an example at the bottom)
the title has to be unique, the texture entry should be the name of the added texture folder, without the 'texture.' at the beginning.
now save and close the aircraft.cfg file.
the last step is to open a random texture folder (in the FA-18 folder of course) and copy the texture.cfg file to the folder you just added, overwriting the one inside.
This should do it, eventually, you can create a new thumbnail to go with it.
(just take a screenshot, crop and resize it to 256x128 pixels, save as a jpg called thumbnail and overwrite the old one)

here's a screenshot of the CS tiger livery on the acceleration hornet:

an example of the new [fltsim.XX] entry, this is the one I used to get the tiger livery in the acceleration hornet. (the last used number was 13, so the new texture became 14)

The other way around was explained by Captain Sim:

Captain Sim wrote on Oct 30th, 2007 at 1:47pm:
In order to merge the A model textures into the D model:
- Copy desired texture.X (X=texture name or number) folder from the FA-18 to the CS_FA-18D airplane forder.
- Copy texture.cfg file from any D texture to the new texture.X folder (overwrite existing texture.cfg)
- Copy from the A aircraft.cfg to the D aircraft.cfg corresponding  [fltsim.XX] section.
Make sure the new section has unique names and IDs and
model=d
texture=X

basically, it's just the same.
hope it helps...

Some of the VC textures don't work though.

Hey Richard,
are you sure you successfully completed step 2:
- Copy texture.cfg file from any D texture to the new texture.X folder (overwrite existing texture.cfg)
I think that's what can cause your problem.
If not, I don't know what to do unfortunately.

Just undertook that method again in the opposite direction, using the Aggressor texture, and that worked out quite well too.  Cool

Hi,

I'm new here, but I saw this post this morning while I was downloading and installing liveries for my "delta" and tried this out with a VMFAT-101 texture intended for the accel. "alpha". However, the canopy frame turned out tan instead of gray like the rest of the aircraft. Does anybody know how to remedy this? The same happened with a VMFA-225 texture, where the canopy frame turned out gray instead of black. I followed the above instructions, here is what I did for the aircraft cfg. file:

[fltsim.12]
title=VMFA-225
sim=FA-18
model=d
panel=
sound=
texture=vmfa225
kb_checklists=boeing_FA18_check
kb_reference=boeing_FA18_ref
atc_id=N007
atc_airline=Marine
atc_flight_number=001
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type="F/A-18D"
ui_variation=VMFA225
ui_typerole=Twin Engine Jet
ui_createdby=Microsoft Corporation
description="The F/A-18D "Hornet" is a two-seat, twin engine, multi-mission fighter/attack aircraft that can operate from either aircraft carriers or land bases."

[fltsim.13]
title=FA-18D Hornet VMFAT-101_233
sim=FA-18
model=d
panel=
sound=
texture=vmfat101-233
kb_checklists=boeing_FA18_check
kb_reference=boeing_FA18_ref
atc_id=233
atc_airline=Marine
atc_flight_number=233
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="F/A-18D"
ui_variation="VMFAT-101-233"
ui_typerole="Twin Engine Jet"
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
description="The Hornet combines the ruggedness required of carrier-borne aircraft with speed and superior agility, especially at high angles of attack. Its powerful engines, canted vertical stabilizers, horizontal stabilators, large leading- and trailing-edge flaps, and sophisticated flight control system all contribute to a level of performance that makes the Hornet a versatile front-line fighter in several air forces around the world."Repaint by Nathan Havercroft"

and then when i put the texture folders into the "delta's" main folder I copied the texture cfg. from the Finnish Airforce livery into both of the new folders. I thought I followed all the directions, but apparently not. Any help someone can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hey,

take a look inside the texture folders,
the problem probably is a file called
F-18_Main07_T.dds.
This file contains the canopy textures.
In your first case, try deleting it (don't forget to back up the file)
If this doesn't solve it, try using the one from the standard finish livery (as this is also gray)

in the second case, make sure it is there. If it's not, FSX will use the one in the 'texture' folder, which is a gray colored aircraft.

If this doesn't solve it, can you post screenshots, and links to the used liveries, I will then try to replicate the problem on my pc.

Tyrion,

Thanks a million for the advice... So, I did what you said to do for the VMFAT-101 (gray) texture and that works like a charm. I then removed the F-18_Main07_T.dds. like you suggested, and now the canopy frame is tan instead of black as it should be. I think I am gonna try and copy the cfg. file and F-18_Main07 from one of my other delta's that has the black canopy frame. Does that sound like it would make sense, or am I  Cheesy ? Thanks again though for the help

Hey USMCgetsome,

Firstly thanks for downloading my Shooter repaint.

One issue might be a small error in the texture.cfg file within the Shooter texture directory. Make sure the first fallback line reads,

fallback.1=..\texture

Hope this helps.

araig,

thanks a million for the awesome textures, I have been trying to complile as many Marine Corps textures as I can find, and yours is by far one of the best. I tweaked the cfg. with the changes you indicated and it now works flawlessly. Out of curiousity, did you happen to post several other squadron textures on avsim? cause there were a couple, but they didn't download, got a message that said they couldnt be found or something. I believe there was a VMFA-533 pack and I don't remember the other. Thanks again though for the beautiful VMFAT 101 skins and the help

Thanks for the compliment!

So far the F/A-18 textures I have uploaded to avsim and flightsim.com are,

Captain Sim D Model
VMFA(AW)-121
VMFAT-101
VMFA-533

Acceleration C Model
VMFAT-101
VFA-204
VMFA-142
VFA-192
VFA-106
VMFA-112 (2 versions)
VMFA-312

If the links are broken at avsim due to their library issue try flightsim.com

Again, thanks a million! Had already downloaded and installed all of your Marine Corps "Charlies" and all but your VMFA-533 (which I just now downloaded) "deltas" and love them all. Got a new computer for christmas though so now I guess its time to reinstall everything. Kind of a random question, but the other day I saw a screenshot of a really nice VMFA(AW)-224 Bengals MAG ship, anyone know where I could find that one?
