Title: NAVDATA. The only thread please!
Post by Mike6800 on Apr 5th, 2008 at 11:01pm
After I noticed that Airports like LEPA (Palma de Mallorca) KABQ (Albuquerque) or KSAF (Santa Fe) are not in the database of Block F I found the *.db's and one MS access file in the navigation folder. But adding the missing airports in the files brought no change. Is there just one missing link when editing the database or is the editing of these files completely useless ?

Title: Re: Is there a way to edit the database ?
Post by Captain_Sim on Apr 5th, 2008 at 11:56pm
We are working on the idea to make it possible for users to edit the database without risk of damaging the whole thing.

And, by the way could you please correct the codes for austrian airports from LOX* to LOW*  :-[
I last found that code mismatch with Tryīs FLY!.
I wonder wether you copied their database, huh?
Please disregard last question, lol

As you might know Navigr*** has released their new Airac cycle 0804 today. Are there any news or could you please let us know if any of their releases work with Block F? Or just let us know whos your third party navdata develloper? :-?

kind regards,

Some days ago I opened a request-thread in the Navdata/Navigraph support forums. Unfortunately, I did not receive any reply yet.
Maybe some of you can also drop a line there to show Iīm not the only one who wants navigraph support for the 757.

Hereīs the link: http://forum.navdata.at/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=956

Unfortunately it seems though that Richard Stefan (the man who releases the AIRACs for Navigraph) is very busy at the moment, because the promised Terminal Procedures for another addon are also overdue for months now.

Title: Re: Is there a way to edit the database ?
Post by hamter on Apr 10th, 2008 at 2:02pm
It seems like the MS ACCESS file which is also used by w***o is completely outdated. It is a file from 2004, whereas the db files are the files which are up to date. Ive compared several databases from other aircraft developpers and the only similarity i found was between CS and the s** a310 database. I havent checked all releases of navig*** though.
The reason Im asking here is that Captain Sim stated to use a third party developper for future Navdata updates.

Title: Re: Is there a way to edit the database ?

NavData.mdb file is OLD navdata file that comes with Block B.

Block F FMS does not use it at all. It uses files dated 2008 only.

• Aeronautical Data including Terminal Procedures

For the "Aeronautical Data including Terminal Procedures" would you mean that we will be able to have all Sid and Star's we want?
Thanks.

I dont see why these Aeronautical Data including Terminal Procedures areint included in the Ver 2.0 of the F block. I have all the blocks and now i havent to spend 35 pounds more to have everything again just to get the Aeronautical Data including Terminal Procedures. Why?

Why?

Title: Re: Pro Pack is out !

Also wondering because of these terminal proccedures being ONLY added to the Pro pack, is the reason behind why i cant make a flightplan with FSNavigator export it to FS2004 and import it to the 757 CDU. Because before Ver 2.0 importing worked just fine.

So whats it all about with this free bonus feature?
• Aeronautical Data including Terminal Procedures

Can anyone who bought the full pro pack confirm a change in navdata to the prereleased Block F?
Is the Airac0804 included, or are there more procedures, waypoints, are you able to edit the navdata?
Im a bit disappointed not having any navdata updates although theyre needed. There too arent any news of Terry Yingling who was ment to be updating the CSs data :-?

Hey CaptainSim Team,

Iīve said it multiple times, but current AIRACs would be very important, especially for the online pilots. I can understand you donīt want to talk about things that arenīt decided yet, but could you at least tell whether or not you are thinking about the option of a partnership with Navigraph and/or have spoken to them, or is that not at all an option for you?!

Thanks,
Martin

Well thank you.
Thats all I wanted, a definite answer. Its just hard without any information to not keep asking. So for now I will keep waiting.
@melb00m: Richard doesnt seem to be very interested in the forum anymore. He hasnt been about for quite a while. It woul be nice to have him make the Airacs for CS as they are very complete. There must be another way of contacting him.

So is it resoniable to assume that this is included in the Version 2.0

Free Bonus Features: (FS9)
• Collins WXR-2100 Weather Radar (€12,90 value)

Because i only see this advertized on the Pro pack
And no information about it on Block F or anywhere else

How come if it took this long to release, that the decision hasn`t been made as to who`s doing the Airacs.
Find it strange.

I think it's could be planepath i.e Terry Yingling

The reason I say that is it's his readme in the Captain Sim navigation database directory.

But agree it would be useful if Captain Sim where to clarify how the database is going to be updated.

In fact the readme indicates

Cycle 0803 sou it's out of date before we even start !

You`re  right the person in charge is Terry Yingling. CS told me that it takes some time to write the new Airacs...But Terry has also uploaded all the other Airacs on schedule and he's been doing the 757 airacs for at least 2 cycles now. So why should it take that long? I dont want to have Airac0804 when 0805 comes out.  >:(

As an European living and flying virtual pilot, I do hope that at least navdatas (Airways/Waypoints/VOR/DME/ILS) will be updated for the whole world and not only for USA, Canada, UK and Ireland...

For terminal procedure, I do program it myself almost all the time, when I don't simply fly it as published (At least do something along my flight ;))

Anyway this plane is great.

I am about to reply to another thread here about the 757 navdata. I would like to comfirm that I have taken the liberty to contact planepath.com  I have gotten a positive yes that Captain Sim is to be added to there list of add-on Airacs as soon as he can get all of the data. He is well aware of this, and is working on it. Please keep an eye out on planepath.com for the release. I will too. I have also contacted Navigraph as well. Still waiting on a reply, but I do have a ticket number incase I don't here from theme.

This is nonsense. Airac cycle updates are released monthly in both RW and the sim world and if you or CS or anybody else need a new chart to prove that then you and whoever else are an idiot.

Checkout Navigraph Airac Updates. Notice how the serious developers provide a means for accommodating FMC updates.

I don't know where to find it either.  But when I bought the new block, and update V2.0, I checked to see my navigation forlder. Found this Sid_Star.txt file. So I decided to open it, and this is what I saw:

NFD/NATS Cycle 0803

For the Captain Sim 757 aircraft in Flight Simulator 2004 by Microsoft.

369 Airports
1034 SIDs
1258 STARs

IMPORTANT:

I am now supplying terminal procedures developed from the FAA NFD. The NFD only has GPS and RNAV (GPS) Approaches....................

Don't know what to say, planepath doesn't supply capt. sim Airac.

Title: PHNL is "not in Database"
Post by 767-300 on May 6th, 2008 at 7:06pm
1. Product name and version?

757 Blocks B and F v2.0

2. Download or a box?

Download

3. MSFS version?

FS2004

4. MSFS Service Pack version?

9.1

5. What exactly doesn’t work or works wrong? (screenshot required for all graphics related issues)

PHNL is not accepted as a valid destination airport

6. When it happens?

PHNL fails to show on flightplan loaded from KSFO to PHNL

PHNL when manually entered is shown as “Not in Database”

7. How exactly do you think it supposed to work? To ensure accuracy of proposed data all numbers (EGT, FF, V, N% etc) must be supported by reference quotes (scan or a table) from a real flight manual even if you are the type rated pilot.

N/A

PHNL is a valid ICAO code

8. What is your system? (OS, video card , RAM, CPU, Sound Card)

Windows Vista 64 bit

AMD5600+ Athlon / 4GB 800MHZ ram / 8600GTS graphics
On board Soundcard / 2 x IBM 320GB SATA in RAID 0

That is not Captain Sims fault. Have a look at all the other threads about navdata.
Either you add your missing airports yourself or you'll have to wait for a new airac-cycle which should be available in the next weeks. 8-)

Hamter - perhaps you could be kind enough to point me at the forum posting that confirms exactly how and  by what means the AIRAC cycles are going to be updated ?

Also this posting by CAPTAIN sim clearly lists PHNL as an airport with SIDS / STARS provided

http://www.captainsim.net/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1207815080/5#5

Yet I can't even set it as a destination ?

To be honest, this is really disappointing. They didnīt confirm a new AIRAC, all they confirmed was that thereīll be terminal procedures upgrades, which is something different than AIRAC updates.

I donīt really mind about terminal procedures, I can enter them myself on the LEGS page if itīs necessary. I canīt do that with Navaids, Airways, Intersections etc. with the exception of entering them as coordinates, which is obviously far from being satisfactory.

I hoped there would be navdata updates provided by Navigraph. But thereīs no confirmation of the team whatsoever that they are in contact with them, so I donīt really think this will happen any more :( Very sad, especially because apart from the missing navdata that bird is really fun to fly with, the other flaws donīt matter as much to me.

Hi everybody,

for all who haven't found out yet how to add a missing Airport with RWY's to the 757's Database here's the way:

First of all go to the FS\Captain_Sim\navigation Folder and find the Airports.db and Runways.db files.

1. Now open the Airports.db File with Notepad. You see a list of airports (the ICAO Codes in alphabetical order) with the following format:
Elevation;ICAO Code; Latitude; Longitude
Place your curser in the list according to the missing AP's ICAO Code (f.e. missing Airport LEPA is to be placed between LEOC and LEPP).
Now open up your Internet Browser and go to http://worldaerodata.com and insert the ICAO Code in the search field for your missing Airport. You can now copy all the according data over to your Airports.db file.
F.e. LEPA:
27;LEPA;39.551675;2.738808
When done save and close the file but keep the webside open.

2. Open the Runways.db with notepad. You now see the list of RWs of the following format:
ICAO-Code; Glideslope Angle; ILS Frequency; Latitude; Length; Longitude; Name (f.e. 31L); Heading.
In your Internet Browser go down the page to runways and click at the according link to get the Coordinates, Length, and Heading of your runways.
F.e. RWY 06L:
LEPA;3;110.9;39.547147;10728;2.710728;06L;59
Since the page doesn't show the GS-Angle and ILS Frequency I had to take them from Flightsim Commander (maybe somebody knows a better link for Airport data, incl. ILS  :-/).

If everything went right your 757's CDU should now have LEPA (with at least RWY 06L) in its database.

Good luck and best regards,
Mike.

BTW the whole RWY part for LEPA:

LEPA;3;110.9;39.547147;10728;2.710728;06L;59
LEPA;3;109.9;39.562503;10728;2.743194;24R;239
LEPA;0;0;39.541256;10039;2.731739;06R;59
LEPA;3;109.3;39.555339;9842;2.761528;24L;239.

Hi,  :)

Here is an example for the data used with CSīs database:

You can edit it with a text editor.

On the Airports.db
48;LEPA;39.3310;2.73333
Airport elevation - Airport OACI code;Coords

On the Runways.db
Each runway should have a line with informations as bellow :

LEPA;3;110.9;39.547147;10725;2.710728;06L;059
Airport OACI code;CAT type;ILS frequency;LONGITUDE;RWY HEIGHT;LATITUDE;RUNWAY NAME;RUNWAY COURSE

found that one in a older Database but with that line it is not conform
with CS`s database.

This is LEPA:
LEPA ; Palma De Mallorca       ; 06L/24R; 058/238; N39°33'17.37; E002°43'37.06; 00032; 10768; 148; 119.25

This is VHHX:
VHHX ; Hong Kong Intl (old)    ; 13 /31 ; 134/314; N22°18'52.65; E114°12'16.63; 00000; 10980; 200; 000.00

Maybe as an example to VHHX:
10;VHHX;22.18526;114.12166

but not shure for that......

As you see the older Base ( for example LEPA ) is not conform to the new one
but maybe you can come along with it !?

cheers
Mario  ;)

Hi Mario

Thanks for your reply,I have just cut/paste the airport.db from your post and now i can enter VHHX into FMC,but the runnway.db (This is VHHX:
VHHX ; Hong Kong Intl (old)    ; 13 /31 ; 134/314; N22°18'52.65; E114°12'16.63; 00000; 10980; 200; 000.00) does not look like this in the file it looks like your LEPA;3;110.9;39.547147;10725;2.710728;06L;059.

I would not be able to convert, could i please ask you to do it for me if you have the time,It would be much appriciated.

Hi,

I know we can get free FMC data update from planepath, but they are not as good as the once from Navigraph.Are/will you be talking to Navigraph about help them make AIRAC cycle+TP for your great aircraft.

I think it would be a great idea. And i am sure lots of other people do to.

yes balaban, the airport names are in the database.

I've just tried brussels but there are no sids and stars available. This is the same for Maastricht and Amsterdam.

Hello,

Maybe somebody can help me with this topic.

I just bought 757 for FS9 and installed succesfully.
However if i start up the fmc i get the following message:

 NAVDATA BASE FILE NOT FOUND

Is it also possible to load FSBuild files in the 757?

Thanks in advance,

Hi

If you are using fsbuild 2.3,you can export your flightplans to FS9/FSX and then import form the FMC.

No sorry,

May be you should reinstall 757,

Title: Re: NAVDATA BASE FILE NOT FOUND
Post by scandinavian13 on Aug 2nd, 2008 at 12:57am
Assuming you have installed everything in the normal areas, the filepath should be:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Captain_Sim\navigation

That folder should contain the following files:
.DBs:
Airports
Airways
Fixes
IAPs
Navaids
Runways
SIDs
STARs

.LDBs
NavData

.CFGs
b757

The folder should also contain a 'routes' folder for saved FMC routes.

If it doesn't, the best fix would be to remove all 757 components and reinstall.

Cheers,
Kyle

I've installed the 757 to FS9 and when I input my dep/arr airports the waypoints are not labled by name, rather by lat/long coordinates.  How can I get my waypints to be labled by name?

Captain Bob, if you're that worried about navdata, I would wait until they patch the fmc, because right now even with the best navdata, the fmc is unusable if you alter your flight plan very much, along the lines of what you would do during typical real world operations.

I've actually had to put this puppy in the hanger until they fix it.

Post by pkofman on Oct 15th, 2008 at 1:25pm
I am able to import fs flight plans from *.pln format into the fms but only if created with the actual flight planner from fs9

when i try to import a .pln file created by a third party planner such as fsbuild or fsnavigator i get very strange waypoints . The waypoints are assigned weird id.s and the lat/long is wrong,

Can someone tell me how  and which planner works for creating and editing flight plans for the capt sim 757 for fs9

Hi Chaps. I'm struggling with the FMC - particularly SIDS. I have downloaded Terry Yinglings latest TP file - 0810 - for some reason, the FMC dep/arr page has difficulty recognising both rwy and sid. For example, departing manchester EGCC, I can select rwy23R or 05L, but if I do the SID list is empty. Alternatively, I can select the SID I want to use, but not the rwy I want to start from. Any ideas?

This is a superb aircraft... it is let down by the FMC and the quality of the data available for it. All the other "issues" I can live with for the time being, but if I can't program the FMC to fly real-world-esque departures and arrivals, its not much use in IFR conditions. Can we make sorting the FMC out our first priority please?

Title: Re: NAVDATA. The only thread please!

As for NAVIGRAPH, they are still reviewing our application.
We you have any questions please ask at: http://forum.navigraph.com/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=25

The more requests for CS navdata they get the better for CS757 users.

Title: Re: NAVDATA. The only thread please!
Post by Joeflyer on Nov 2nd, 2008 at 6:17pm
The only way I get the FMC to function correctly is to enter in all waypoints, VORs, NDBs,etc manually. I first plan a flight via FS Navigator, export to FS9,etc. I print out the flight plan from FS Nav so that I can have all of the waypoints available. Sometimes the FMC doesn't recognize certain waypoints, especially on departure, but I improvise on the departures by seeing what waypoints are showing on the cockpit nav screen. I will enter those from the departure runway into the FMC...in order to get a smoother transition on departure of course.

I will save any of the entered flight plans in the FMC for future use. Since I don't use FS Build, I have to manually entere everything. It is true that the FS9 .pln plans don't agree with CS's FMC. All lat/long's may be correct but the distances are always 8nm between each one in the FMC.

The FMC will not recognize ANY fixes from FS NAV like Fix 01, Fix02,etc, so I ignore those and find any compulsary reporting points like BADGER, HANRY, DUGGS, TOU15,etc. CS's FMC seems to recognize those formats. I've managed several successful flights :)

We've been waiting some months already.  There's a lot going on at CS right now, from what I've been able to determine.  It will come.

I'm anticipating it so I can resume the Long Hops flightplans at the UGT server.  Right now I'm stuck on the west coast of USA because the 757 FMC doesn't know anything about PHNL (Honolulu, Hawaii) and I really don't care to make the trip in any other plane that I have. :D

It amazes me that it seems to know non-international airports in Hawaii, but not the most common one.  ::)

Title: Re: NAVDATA. The only thread please!
Post by cantland on Feb 13th, 2009 at 2:27am
I ran into the same thing with PHNL. I discovered that the airport is in the Captain Sim airport and runway data as PHIK, Hickman AFB which shares it's runways with adjacent Honolulu International Airport.  I went into the Captain Sim Airports and Runways database files and changed all the PHIK entries to PHNL. Honolulu now shows up in the FMC.

I hope you will bring us a panel state "editor", startable engines (even when you've been on the ground for a while), and compatibility with the latest FSCUIP.

I'm very patient, as I belive that the CS757 is no fun for other than touch and goes at the time being. But once you get a navdatabase and startable engines... I'm ready to come back to this bird, and even recommend it to my fellow simmers :D

Are you ready to compete with the upcoming another company 757 btw.? It would be nice to see a head on fight between two companies on the same model. Even though I would wish for two different planes, maybe it will result in something positive in the end.

Best regards,
Mikkel

mikkel, my engines start fine.  Have you tried following the checklists?  I can't remember if you're one I've written to about this.  If you have anything at all using air, or if your APU RUN light isn't on (even if you get power and air) you won't get the start valves to open.

Bob, there is a bug that if you let the airplane sit on the ground too long the engines won't start no matter what you do. There is an old thread about this, but who knows if CS will fix it in the patch.

According to navigraph, CS tested the data and signed off on it, but still haven't given them the go ahead to release it. That's all navigraph is waiting for, the ok from CS. But since CS already said it looked good, I'm not sure what the holdup is.

they donīt say it's already tested, they say they're still testing... and it looks good is not the same as it is good.

No and unfortunately, as this airport is now not in use, the next patch (with Navdata and bugs fexe (AP)) that will not be added.

After the patch release, you should contact Richard from Navigraph and ask him this special favor.

All the best
